On Tap 8/25-28

In case you’re lost for what to do this weekend, here’s my call on the best European football games to watch in any given time slot this weekend. Can’t promise they’ll actually be the best games, but these are the one’s I would watch as a neutral. All listed times are CDT.

Saturday, August 26th
6:30 AM Bournemouth – Tottenham Hotspur (USA). This is what’s on.
9:30 AM Brentford – Crystal Palace (Peacock). Though USA is carrying Arsenal – Fulham, a theoretical London derby(!), in this window, I suspect this other theoretical London derby(!) will be a better game.
11:30 AM Borussia Mönchengladbach – Bayer Leverkusen (ESPN+). Given that Leverkusen beat RB Leipzig and Gladbach was part of an eight goal draw last weekend, this is the Bundeliga match to highlight this match day.
2:00 PM Paris Saint-Germain – RC Lens (BEIN Sports). First and second place last year meet, and with PSG yet to win a game this season. Not to be missed.

Sunday, August 27th
6:00 AM Stade Rennais – Le Harve AC (BEIN Sports). You’ve heard it before: it’s what’s on.
8:00 AM Burnley – Aston Villa (Peacock). Vincent Company’s Burnley is not your (one-year) older brother’s Burnley. Give this one a chance.
10:30 AM Newcastle – Liverpool (USA). Undoubtedly one of the games of the weekend.
1:45 PM Napoli – Sassuolo (Paramount+) or OGC Nice – Olympique Lyonnais (BEIN Sports). It’s a close enough call between these two games that you probably can’t go wrong.

Monday, August 28th
11:30 AM Salernitana – Udinese (Paramount+). Salernitana’s 2-2 draw with Roma this weekend makes this a more promising match than I would have expected. Andrea Candreva scored the goals, while Mexican national Memo Ochoa conceded them.
2:30 PM Rayo Vallecano – Atlético Madrid (ESPN+). A Madrid derby (sort of).
